What are some ideas for a quick, healthy breakfast? Dates are a good way to break a fast (get it, break-fast?). Dates are high in fiber so they provide a healthy carbohydrate - about 15 grams of carbohydrates, so if you feel extra hungry, you probably don't need more than 2. And you can eat them with our without the pit - but be sure to compost or throw out the pit.

Whole Wheat English muffins or 1/2 of a large whole wheat bagel are 2 more good options. Go for the whole wheat here to get your grains with fiber. You can top these with a protein such as peanut butter, 1-2 eggs or cheese. Limit your carbohydrates to 30 grams for breakfast, and protein to 15 grams. You could have less of either, but read your nutrition labels for serving size and total carbohydrates or protein and you'll be moving in the right direction.
Whole grain cereals such as oatmeal are another good option. Oatmeal from regular or steel-cut oats are good options, but have you tried the 3-minute option of oat bran? You could add some protein to any of these warm cereals if needed to sustain you throughout the morning. Think about stirring in hemp hearts, nut butter (peanut, almond, or sunflower seed), or a plant-based protein powder for additional fiber.
If you have extra time (weekends), prepare some whole grain options from scratch to provide leftovers during the week. Look for a recipe for whole wheat pancakes or waffles, or make French toast from whole wheat bread. Here are some Oatmeal Pancakes and Multigrain pancakes that we have made repeatedly because they are so satisfying.
